Fire Chief / District Administrator
Chief Thompson is a third-generation Fire Chief from Missouri who assumed leadership of Grand Fire in January 2014. In addition to his Fire Chief duties, Chief Thompson also serves as the Administrator and Chief Executive Officer, responsible for administering the affairs and overall operation of Grand Fire Protection District No. 1. As District Administrator he directs, coordinates and controls the District’s administration, including planning, budgeting, financial management, policies and procedures. During his career he served as Fire Chief in Pagosa Springs, CO; Deputy Chief in Independence, MO; Fire/EMS Bureau Commander in Gladstone, MO and most recently was employed as Deputy Chief of the Inspection Unit for the Missouri Division of Fire Safety. Chief Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University and an Associate of Science Degree in Fire Science and Technology from Penn Valley Community College. He holds Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor II, Fire Investigator, and Fire Inspector I IFSAC Certifications. He has three grown children and lives in Granby, CO with his wife.
Assistant Chief, Administration / Community Risk Reduction
Schelly has been a full time employee of the Fire District since 2011. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining Grand Fire Protection District No. 1, Schelly was a volunteer firefighter/EMT in Grand Lake and worked at Grand County EMS and Granby Medical Center. She is a NREMT-IV and a CPR and First Aid instructor. She also holds certifications for FFII (structure), FFT2 (wildland), Haz Mat Ops, Fire Instructor I, Fire & Life Safety Educator I, and is a qualified Public Information Officer, working on her PIO (2) Taskbook. Chief Olson is the founder and chairperson of the Grand County Wildfire Council and the website “BeWildfireReady.org” She lives in Grand Lake with her husband and one daughter who attends Middle Park High School. Her older daughter lives and works near Boulder, CO.

Willa was born and raised in Granby where both her father and grandfather were volunteer firefighters for the Granby Fire Department. She is very active in the community, serving on the governing board for Indian Peaks Charter School for over six years. She was a volunteer firefighter for the District for five years before joining the Grand Fire staff in 2013. Willa holds Firefighter II (structure) and Haz Mat Ops certifications, and she is now a Volunteer Lieutenant. She is also the Treasurer of the Granby Volunteer Firefighters 501(c)(3) Board of Directors. She enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with her two boys.
